Reflective Blog- Week 2

Today my class and another class in my year level got to meet a Australia guy that lives in Japan on Skype. His name was Harry and he has been living in china for seven and a half years. He talked about what he liked about China and what he had learnt from being there.

Throughout  this experience he answered some questions that my and the other class had asked him. These include:

What is the food like in China and do you like it better than Australian food?

He said that because he had been living in China for so long that he is used to the food and likes it better than Australian food. His example of this was that he would rather have noodles than a burger or and Australian meal. I get where he is coming from because I think if I lived in a different country for seven years I would definitely get used to the countries food.

What is the most celebrated festival in China?

The most celebrated festival in Harry's opinion is the Chinese New Year. Apparently everyone travels and sometimes it can get really crazy. Instead of this being a festival for a day it is normally celebrated for a whole week!

If you know anything else about China would love to know!

What do I think about world collaboration?

Throughout this unit my year level will be doing a lot of world collaboration with people from America, New Zealand, China and Some Australian schools. Underneath I have included some key words and my thoughts on what I think will happen throughout this experience.

Netiquette

I think that having netiquette while speaking to people on the internet is a very important thing. If we speak to people politely and respectfully then they should do the exact same thing back. The meaning of netiquette is:

Definition: The rules of etiquette but on the internet or technology.

Global Collaboration

I think the concept of Global collaboration and communicating with people overseas sounds fun but may involve a lot of hard work. I believe that because talking to people on the internet instead of face to face can be hard and people can get mixed up on what other people are saying.

Effective Communication

I think to communicate effectively you have to have a clear idea of what you want to say otherwise people could get mixed on what you are trying to say. I think even though you can't stand face to face with people on the internet you can still communicate well. I am not saying its going to be easy to work with someone on the other side of the world but think it won't be the hardest thing.

Time zones and Cultural differences

I personally are not too worried bout the different languages as the one language that isn't English, which is Chinese are learning to speak English. The thing I am more worried about is the times zones because its going to be really hard to figure out when we can talk to them and what lessons we waste trying to talk to them.

Reflective blog- Week 1

On Friday, my class and another year seven got to Skype in with the Green initiatives manager in China. The things I learnt and the questions I answered  from this experience includes:

  • What three new things did I learn from this experience?
~The first major thing that I learnt is that the most common or worst environmental problem in China is their pollution. Even though lots of people have realized this problem and tried to help solve it the pollution is still getting worse.

~The second thing is that if we focus on more on what children and teenagers can do to help not what adults can do because as lots of people say 'Our children are the adults of the future'.

~That the environment is not harmed by what we do it is harmed more by what we don't do. This means for example say we didn't water the trees and left them to die. Its not that we did something its that we didn't do something.

Nitin, the guy from green initiatives is originally from India. He moved to China because he thought he could solve or help to solve some of their environmental problems. The things that the green initiatives focus on on there website includes:

~Promotes awareness to adults and children about what they can do about China's environmental problems.

~Produces speeches and events to make people aware of how the environment is in its current state.
